Adoption Guidelines
Please note that, like other rescue groups and like public shelters, RappCats charges an adoption fee to offset the costs of medical services and supplies so our cats are healthy and ready for adoption. RappCats operates entirely through uncompensated volunteer time and the money we collect is donations and adoption fees Also the adoption fee tests the commitment of the adopter and roundly discourages any attempts to acquire cats for the purpose of selling them for unthinkable reasons, such as to vivisection labs, etc. It acts in this way as a sort of “earnest money.”
Thank you for your interest in providing a life long home for one of our cats. The completion of this questionnaire is the first step towards what we hope will be many years of happiness for both you and our rescue cat. Once you’ve answered all of the questions, your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted to schedule a home visit. We do not respond to incomplete applications. Please understand that we want the best fit for you and the rescued cat.
Bear in mind that completing this process does not guarantee an adoption approval. We want the best match of personality, temperament and home environment for both the adoptive family and the cat. We are looking out for the best interests of our cats. We are the only voice that they have.
If your application is approved, you will be asked to sign a legally binding contract when adopting your cat. The adoption fee is currently $85 for each cat. This adoption fee covers a number of services (medical, food, etc.) to provide you with a healthy pet.
Example of fees we pay:
Procedure |
Cost |
Sterilization |
$35-$50 |
Feline Leukemia/FIV Combo test |
$20 |
Rabies Vaccine |
$10 |
Distemper (FVRCP or RCCP) |
$10 |
Deworming |
$10 |
The above examples do not include food, litter, post-operative drugs, and other routine expenses. All adoption fees go directly to providing medical care, food, litter and shelter for our rescued cats.
Once the paperwork has been completed and you pay the adoption fee, you’ll be able to take your new companion home. You do need to provide a carrier for transport. We will contact you after the adoption for follow up.
Conditions of adoption:
- You must have a valid identification showing your current address and your age.
- If you are renting, we will need to see a copy of your lease that shows that you are permitted to have a pet. If you own your home, we do verify home ownership.
- You must be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and proper care for a cat.
- You must be willing to provide a life long commitment to the care and well being of your cat. If you are not prepared to accept a lifetime of loving commitment (companion animals can live 15 – 20 years) to an adoptive pet, please look elsewhere.
RappCats adopts regardless of the individual’s race, gender, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age or disability. RappCats reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any cat without stating a reason.
